Tony LaRussa’s latest departure from reality.

Author: AnnKillion | Filed under: Uncategorized

Tony LaRussa showed up today at the rally in Washington DC organized by FOX News raver Glenn Beck, one that featured Sarah Palin. He was there to introduce slugger Albert Pujols who was being honored for his charity work.  LaRussa said before attending “I don’t want to be there if it’s political.”

Uh, Mr. Mastermind, the event was organized by the conservative right’s foaming cheerleader and featured the political movement’s gun-toting darling.  No, it wasn’t going to be political at all.  Just like LaRussa’s statement earlier this summer supporting Arizona’s anti-immigration laws weren’t political. Nope.

LaRussa’s claim that “it has nothing to do with politics,” is as believable as his claim that he didn’t know Mark McGwire ever did steroids until Big Mac called him up last January to tell him he was about to confess to the world. Which was shocking, absolutely shocking.

Paging Mr. LaRussa. Reality is calling on the dugout phone. Care to pick up?

  1. So I take it you DIDN’T watch the rally and just bothered to assume what would happen and take a decisive hatefull rhetoric. Some what the rally was against. Shame cause mr pujols did the cardinals proud. But again being fair and not biased against something slightly right leaning would I guess be reality and hoping someone would be fair and not rip someone for being at a rally such a’s that is out of touch with reality.

  2. Eric,

It was political, just as you acknowledge (“slightly right leaning”), unless I misread your barely-literate bit. LaRussa is a hypocrite, and Ms. Killion called him on it. Could have been a left-leaning rally. Her rhetoric was not hateful.

  3. Eric, you’re right, there is clearly no malice or invective in AK’s post. None at all. & both you & AK have correctly classified the completely non-political event as political – I wish everyone could see things as clearly as you two! In fact, let’s dissect it so that people can see it more clearly.

“Tony LaRussa’s latest departure from reality.”

** This is not a disparaging comment – Tony LaRussa’s hometown is named “Reality”.

    “FOX News raver Glenn Beck”

** Interesting, I didn’t know that Glenn Beck likes to attend raves & listen to techno/trance music.

    “Uh, Mr. Mastermind”

** This is clearly a pet name that AK & Tony LaRussa share b/c they are so close. There is absolutely no condescension here.

“organized by the conservative right’s foaming cheerleader”

** Excellent journalism here. I’m glad AK identified & differentiated the “Restoring Honor” event’s organizer from all of the other hypersalivating event organizers named Glenn Beck that Tony LaRussa was involved with in D.C. on 8/28. Just mentioning Glenn Beck clearly wouldn’t have sufficed.

“featured the political movement’s gun-toting darling”

** Whew…again, AK’s powers of clarification come to the rescue. I never would have been able to identify Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor/vice-presidential candidate & current media personality, until she said “political movement” & “gun-toting”. I hope nobody took that as a disparaging description, b/c it’s just not true.

“No, it wasn’t going to be political at all. Just like LaRussa’s statement earlier this summer supporting Arizona’s anti-immigration laws weren’t political. Nope.”

** Again, AK is sooooo right. Oops, I mean “right” as in “correct”. I would hate to sully her liberal image by causing someone to classify her as “right wing” – my bad. Anyway, she’s correct again b/c nobody in the political arena can ever do anything non-political! So, Glenn Beck & Sarah Palin, talking about restoring faith, hope & charity was absolutely a political event, & shame on Tony LaRussa for showing up to honor his player! I’m glad she tore down that straw man…uhm, straw person. Although I am confused – I remember an Arizona law that encouraged that state’s law enforcement officers to protect the state’s citizens (& the citizens of the US by extension) by enforcing existing federal laws against illegal immigration that were being ignored by the federal government. I also remember the vast majority of that state’s citizens (and also the nation’s citizens) being extremely pro-immigration (of the legal kind).

“LaRussa’s statement earlier this summer supporting Arizona’s anti-immigration laws weren’t political. Nope. LaRussa’s claim that “it has nothing to do with politics,” is as believable as…”

    - AK is so correct to tie in comments that Tony LaRussa said about a completely unrelated topic at a completely different time to shed light on the issue at hand. Dissimilar things are similar – I wish people could understand that.

“Paging Mr. LaRussa. Reality is calling on the dugout phone. Care to pick up?” – Again, no problem here. “Reality” is Tony LaRussa’s niece – she was named after LaRussa’s home town.

  4. Oops, my bad Idaho Nick, how clumsy of me to call you Eric.
